Cannot enable translation
When "Enable" on right click is checked and green, still cannot "enable" the translate function in the "settings" dialog box. It is grayed out. I have v4.2.0.169 installed.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

What is the latest version of Skype that this will work with...
I have currently got vers 5.3 and everytime I try to install the translator it tells me I need to have 3.5.0 system version in the Global Assembly Cache...
You have to install .NET 3.0
Chen
I have that installed however the same message comes up; I have reinstalled .NET 3.0 still the same error...
i'v got
windows xp sp3
skype 5.2 beta
When install Skype translation. I get the window that says
--------------------
unable to install or run the application. the application requirres that assembly windowsBase version 3.0.0.0 be installed in the Global Assembly Cach (GAC) first
----------------------
pleas help me
I had the same problem.
But after I started to actually write in a chatwindow, the preferences suddenly got enabled
MY SYSTEM
Skype:5.0.0.156
SkypeTranslate: 1.0.0.31
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
PROBLEM
Unable to enable and configure plugin
In the settings dialog box where you are suposed to select your owqn language and the language of the one you are chating with, the checkbox to Enable the configuration for the remote user is disabled.
THINGS I HAVE TRIED
1. I have made sure the plugin has access to Skype (Skype Menu: Tools -> Options -> Advanced Settings -> Manage other programs' access to Skype)
2. I have started Skype first and then the plugin and vice versa.
3. I have tried to enable the translation before doing the configuration and vice versa.
4. I have removeduninstalled the plugin and then reinstalled it again and it didn't help.
THINGS YOU NEED TO DO TO IMPROVE SkypeTranslate
1. If there is ever a contol that is dissabled there should allways be a help text explaining what needs to be done to enable it.
2. Create a configuration wizard for first time setup with verifications that all things you depend on are working correctly and that they are present.
I'll release a new version soon that will cover most of your feedback

I downloaded Skype Translate 1.0.0.31 to my 2 computers at the same time. One has Windows XP, the other Windows 7. It never works. I have uninstalled, reinstalled at both computers. It is always grayed out. I can change my language selection, but can never enable the person I chat with. This program does not work at all
I have the same problem, even though I did enable and allow access to skype. And I have tried it a few times
What is your exact problem?
Which version of Skype Translate are you using?
Have you tried to follow all the steps below? (Including uninstall)
Chen
In Skype, under Skype>Options>Advanced, in the "Manage API Access Control" dialog box, Skype Translate is allowed access to Skype.
It's all very odd...
Do the following steps:
1. Remove you current installation
2. Go to Skype>Options>Advanced, in the "Manage API Access Control", and remove all "Skype Translate" entries
3. Download Skype Translate from http://download.cnet.com/Skype-Translate/3000-12941_4-75015182.html?part...
4. Give Access again
5. Start chat with someone, and check the settings while you are in a chat
Please tell me the results
Chen
It looks like this worked! Thanks for your help, Chen.
When I translate to Chinese, it displays it as a series of squares, I assume because I do not have the Chinese alphabet loaded on my computer. When my Chinese friend responds, I'll know for sure it has worked.
Thanks so much!
I hope you'll enjoy it

Hi Chen - Doesn't matter whether I have the green enable "checkmark", or the red disable X - when I'm in a chat, "settings" does not allow me to check the enable box to allow translation. Very odd...
Check the About
Maybe you did not authorized Skype Translate to access Skype? (In the case the settings option is grayed out)
Chen
When "Enable" is on it means that the translation is disabled (you have to click to enable)
I guess this is not very clear
Chen
During a chat with a friend you can enable/disable the translation for a specific friend
Thanks for the comment, chen. But even when in a chat with a specific friend, I cannot enable/disable the translation. The box is still grayed out.
